Dave Allen says Andy Ruiz Jr talks look promising for potential farewell fight

Dave Allen says discussions about facing Andy Ruiz Jr are progressing well and intends to make the bout his last if it happens. He also plans to box again this year.

Dave Allen says talks over a potential fight with former unified heavyweight world champion Andy Ruiz Jr are progressing well, with the heavyweight intending to retire after that contest if it happens, Boxing News reported.

Writing on Instagram, Allen also outlined his plans for further activity in 2026: “I’ll box again this year, once, maybe twice, because why not?”

Allen has already fought five times this year. He lost to now-IBF world champion Filip Hrgovic when headlining at Doncaster Rovers’ football stadium, while his recent co-main event appearance on the Katie Taylor bill at Croke Park ended in a no-contest.

Ruiz returned from two years out at the beginning of this month but lost to Damian Knyba, suffering his third career defeat. The 37-year-old, who is signed with Matchroom, has said he intends to continue fighting.
