David Benavidez credits Ryan Garcia's speed and power for Conor Benn stoppage

David Benavidez said Ryan Garcia's speed and power proved decisive in his second-round stoppage of Conor Benn, as reported by Boxing News. Speaking to Fight Hub TV, Benavidez said opponents underestimate the pace of Garcia's punches.

Garcia made the first successful defence of his WBC welterweight title at the T-Mobile Arena on Saturday. A flush right hand dropped Benn, who regained his feet but was stopped just seconds later. It was the first stoppage defeat of Benn's career.

Benavidez also backed referee Thomas Taylor's intervention amid criticism that the fight had been ended prematurely.

“I think Conor Benn was hurt pretty bad. If he [Taylor] didn’t stop it then, he would have stopped it in the next round.”
